Al Campanis



As General Manager of the Dodgers, he will unfortunately not be remembered for his accomplishments (under Campanis the Dodgers reached the World Series four times, in 1974, 1977, 1978 and 1981. They lost the first three of these, but finally won in 1981), but instead for the reason he was fired, having made some derogatory racial remarks in 1987 on TV's Nightline about blacks lacking buoyancy, among other things. Ironically, this coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Major League debut of Jackie Robinson, to whom he was close.
