Beneath Los Angeles BENEATH

Billie Dove

Arguably the biggest female star of the late 20's and early 30's, she was indisputably one of the most beautiful women in the world. Joining the Ziegfeld Follies at age 15, by 16 she was one of his biggest attractions, and at 21, a major movie star, receiving more fan mail than any other star at the time, 50,000 letters per week! The Hollywood post office had to hire a team of clerks just to handle mail addressed to her. Howard Hughes pursued her as if his life depended on it, and they had a tumultuous four year affair. In 1932, after a dust up with William Randolph Hearst, and trying to break free of Hughes, she turned her back on show buisness. The biggest star in the world up and vanished, dying New Year's Eve, 1997, at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, CA.
