Hello, again, dear BLA Subscribers:
A big update is now underway here at Beneath Los Angeles. Fifteen new graves have been added this week, and more are coming in the weeks ahead.
I made a full day of it recently at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City to attend the dedication of a brand spanking new mausoleum there, and with the expert guidance of BLA friends like Scott Groll and Jim Duggan, I was able to photograph many new graves in a place I thought I had covered every inch of already. Thus we add the following:
Sixties activist Jerry Rubin; Mattel co-founder Ruth Handler (as well as her son, Ken, after whom the Ken doll was named); Sorrell 'Boss Hogg' Booke; gangster attorney Sam Rummel; Legendary DJ B. Mitchell Reed; B-Movie actress and bizarre murder victim Susan Cabot; Nell Carter; Lingerie impressario Frederick (of Hollywood) Mellinger; MCA Chief Lew Wasserman; and new photos for old residents like Al Jolson (whose iconic waterfall monument is the symbol of this place), Milton Berle and Julia Phillips.
Coming soon will be the legendary screenwriting twins Julius and Phillip Epstein (Casablanca), as well as a few new photos from Mt Sinai, like Hillel Slovak, former guitarist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Have you got your 2004 BLA Calendars yet? February's grave photo is Marilyn Monroe. Click over to the gift shop to check them out. No grave hunter should be without it.
As always, a heap big thank you to my wonderful webmaster, Dave, and to all of you for your continuing support and correspondence. Remember, do not reply to this email, but feel free to write me directly from the site. I respond to all your notes.
Have a great month, enjoy the new uploads, and keep an eye on the What's New page for all complete updates.
