Gram Parsons

As a member of the mid-career Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons was an early progenitor of the Country-Rock music genre. In 1973, he died at the age of 26 at the Joshua Tree Inn. His casket was stolen by two of his close friends from LAX where it was to be flown to New Orleans for burial, and they brought it here, to Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park (where Gram had been known to get high with Keith Richards and look for UFOs). Here they set the body on fire. Although the cremains were eventually returned to New Orleans for burial, fans come here from all over the world to write messages to him on the rocks where he was cremated.
