Sam Haskins

LA's first black firefighter, as well as the first to be killed in the line of duty, his grave remained unmarked and his place in history unknown for 108 years until research by my friend, Joe Walker, revealed both. The result was this monument, unveiled in an elaborate ceremony on February 29, 2004, and the history books re-written to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by this pioneer.
